Six Generations of Woodworking

From log homes to custom kitchens — the Lortie family
has been building in Lafontaine since 1867.

The Lortie family has been part of the Lafontaine area since 1867. The first generation were pioneers — they built log homes with hand tools, out of necessity, long before “custom cabinetry” was a business. Some of those original tools are still on display in our shop today, a reminder of where all of this started.

Woodworking passed down through the family for six generations. Each generation added its own skills and its own tools, but the approach never changed: build it right, build it to fit, and stand behind it.

Today, that same hands-on craftsmanship carries through everything Keith, his son Dylan, and their longtime shop hand Dominique build. Every project still passes through the same steps a Lortie has always used — measured by hand, built in the shop, finished with care, and installed by the people who built it.

“Five generations of fine woodworking” is written on the wall of our shop — Dylan, Keith’s son, is the sixth.

What hasn’t changed in over 150 years is who’s behind the work: the same family, still building it right here in Lafontaine.

Keith’s great-grandfather could tell everything he needed to know about a piece of wood just by running his hand over it — the right piece for the job, and whether a finished cabinet felt truly done. Keith works the same way today: feeling the material, feeling the finish, building to a quality you won’t find off a factory line.

It is also why Kei-Lor works with the same suppliers year after year, using the same materials that have proven to withstand the test of time — kitchens, bathrooms, and cabinetry get used every single day, so everything is built to take that use and still look beautiful for years to come.

Dylan grew up in this shop — he was there after school and on weekends, sanding cabinet boxes alongside his older brother Devin.

Dylan officially joined the team eight years ago when he graduated from high school. Today he runs the spray booth and is Keith’s second hand on every delivery and installation, bringing his own ideas to the table along the way.

Keith is incredibly happy to have his son working by his side.
